environmental sustainability
Environmental sustainability is all about maintaining a healthy environment that can support the way we live. The way we are currently using non-renewable sources of energy and treating our environment is having a major impact on our planet, and will not be able to continue to sustain life.
Many of you are already working hard to ensure that you have as little impact on the planet, and the people around you, as possible. There are heaps of ways we can take action and make sure we are having as little negative impact on our environment as possible, especially around the house.
Quick Facts
Australian's produce an average of one tonne of rubbish per person every year, making us the second highest producer of waste after the USA.
You could save around $100 a year if you use the sun to dry your clothes instead of a clothes dryer, not to mention the greenhouse gas emissions you could prevent!
You can save up to 10% off your energy bill by turning off your appliances at the wall when you are not using them.
Showers use an average of 12 litres of water per minute – imagine how much water [and money] you could save over a year if you showered just a few minutes less each time!
